Superior courts country wide to remain closed throughout next week

KAMPALA– The Judiciary of Uganda has finalized preparations for the 26th Annual Judge conference scheduled to take place from Monday 3rd to 6th February 2025 at Mestil Hotel in Kampala.

Noted that the meeting will attract over 400 Judicial officers at the rank of Justices and Registrars

All Judicial officers of Superior courts i.e Supreme Court, Court of Appeal/Constitutional court and High court will be away from their stations next week. However Registries of these courts and Magistrates Court will remain open for business.

Other objectives include; reflecting on the Judiciary’s performance, key achievements and challenges in calendar year 2024; identifying lessons learnt and best practices that can foster improved, effective, and efficient justice delivery as well as sharing the perspectives of other justice actors on the role of Uganda’s Judiciary in socioeconomic development.

The conference will also focus on evaluation of Judiciary’s contribution including innovations, and challenges faced in promoting access to justice and exploring opportunities towards enhancement of access to justice in the context of social and economic development.

It is expected that at the end of the conference, the judges and justices will be able to: -Apply lessons and best practices from the conference dialogue to foster improved, effective, and efficient justice delivery. Appreciate the perspectives and gaps identified by sister justice actors regarding the role of Uganda’s Judiciary in socio-economic development and dispense justice from the context, interalia, of social and economic development.”

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be the chief Guest at this conference which is going to be held under a theme: “Positioning Uganda’s Judiciary to Contribute to the Country’s Social and Economic Development”.

At the same press briefing, His worship James Mawanda Ereemye revealed that all is set for 2025 New Law year scheduled to take place on Friday 7th February, at Judiciary headquarters In Kampala.
