On addressing journalists at Naguru Police Headquarters on Monday, Dr. Albert Byamugisha Chairperson Board of Directors (UBOS) noted that the census exercise has been moving on well despite of the challenges.

“We encountered some technical challenges on the first day, particularly in areas like Greater Kampala. However, we have resolved these issues, and the enumeration is proceeding smoothly,” remrked Byamugisha.

James Kizza , the Director Digital solutions and Digital capability (UBOS), pointed out that on the first day they experienced several challenges but these were dissolved by the team.

“I have also heard the issue of data , where some people are asking why don’t we get people data, in order to secure our data we decided to use a private network from our telecos. Here we had MTN and Airtel. Some people are used to checking MBs, You will not get anything on these tablets , these gadgets can connect to our servers directly as long as they are set properly.”

There was a batch of sim cards which had issues and we advised them to go to the local suppliers to have that rectified

On that simcard u can’t browse, you can’t call , but you can work on our activities only

“We didn’t have any technological failure, if we had it then we couldn’t have any data coming through. The people couldn’t login because the districts didn’t assign them their enumeration areas. In terms of gadgets, we have more than one type in this exercise.”

He also pointed out that the gadgets that had issues were around Kampala and the manufacturer has already replaced them all with better ones.

Regarding payments, UBOS clarified that they have the money to pay training allowance for all enumerators but there is a need to verify details of all enumerators that participated. “We call upon those responsible at the district to verify the list and send them to the UBOS headquarters and they get paid because the money is there.” Byamugisha added
