UBOS Warns Ugandans Against Conmen Ahead of National Census

KAMPALA– As we are left with less than 90 days  to the National Housing and Population Census scheduled to take place in May this year , Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has asked citizens not to give out any confidential information to people disguising as their Staff.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Executive Director, Dr Chris Mukiza, has dismissed reports making rounds on social media that his contract has run out.

“The circulating information alleges that there are people who are moving around Households, disguising as UBOS employees with letter heads and claim to confirm that everyone has a National identity Card for purposes of participating in Census 2024.” Revealed Dr. Chris Mukiza Executive Director UBOS (Commissioner Census)

He has therefore on behalf of UBOS informed the public that the on-going listing exercise is recording the name of the Household Head and geo-reference code for Households and Area boundaries, with their teams currently in the Cities of Arua, Fort Portal, Gulu, Hoima, Jinja, Lira, Mbale, Masaka, Mbarara, Soroti, and will soon be in the greater Kampala comprising of Kmpala, Wakiso and Mukono districts.

“Other districts are being visited to mop-up the remaining households that were not covered in our previous listing exercise. In all UBOS statistical field activities including the listing of Households for 2024. The teams are accompanied with guides who are area LC 1 Chairpersons or an elected leader known to the area.”

Mukiza has further advised the general public to be vigilant and report all suspected cases of this nature to the nearest police station as he has warned all individuals involved in manipulating the population to desist from these acts and  once identified, they will be held responsible and handed over to the authorities.
