A 45-year-old Ugandan journalist, Risdel Kasasira, has died in a car crash in Lyantonde District.
The accident occurred on January 3, 2025, at around 13:00 local time, along the Lyantonde-Kashagama road in Kalagala Malyansimbi village.
According to police, the vehicle, a Toyota Corolla Fielder with registration number UBK 851Y, was being driven by Nshimire Sharlote, 36, a resident of Kashari, Mbarara District.
It is alleged that the vehicle lost control and fell into a water trench, resulting in Kasasira’s death on the spot.
Three other passengers, including two children, Ntone Aretha, 5, and Nowangye Elerio, 3, and Nshimire Sharlote, 36, were rushed to Lyantonde Hospital for treatment.
The police visited the scene, and the vehicle has been parked at CPS Lyantonde pending inspection.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Lyantonde Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the cause of the crash was over-speeding.
