KAMPALA, Uganda — In a bid to revamp Uganda’s technical education system, the government has introduced the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Bill, 2024.
The bill was tabled by Hon. John Chrysostom Muyingo, Minister of State for Education and Sports (Higher Education). It proposes the creation of a TVET Council to oversee governance, curriculum development, and the establishment of a Skills Development Fund to tackle unemployment.
The bill aims to provide a comprehensive framework for the coordination, regulation, and promotion of TVET in Uganda. It also seeks to establish a TVET Council and a Sector Skills Expert Committee to guide the development of technical and vocational education.
The proposed legislation is expected to enhance the quality and relevance of technical education in Uganda, ultimately addressing the country’s skills gap and unemployment challenges.
The bill has been referred to the Committee on Education and Sports for consideration.
