UPDF Plane Crashes in Agago

A UPDF plane has crash landed in Kalongo Town Council, Agago District.

The incident happened on Friday at around 11:30 am at Bardege Cell, near Kalongo Airstrip runaway.

Elijah Olaa LCIII Chairperson Kalongo Town Council said that the Aircraft Skyvan 3A-100 Registration number AF-519 took off from Pader, where the UPDF soldiers are always stationed. It had two occupants on board.

James Nabinson Kidega, the RDC of Agago confirmed the incident, saying the plane was carrying equipment for operations against Karamojong warriors. Kidega however said the details on what caused the crash and the number of victims are still scanty.

Captain Amos Nsamba, the PRO 5th Division, said he was still in a meeting about the incident and would speak to the press later.

Agago District is bordered by Kitgum District to the north, Kotido District to the northeast, Abim District to the east, Otuke District, to the south, and Pader District to the west. Agago, the location of the district headquarters is located approximately 80 kilometres (50 mi), by road, southeast of Kitgum, the nearest large town.

This location lies approximately 370 kilometers (230 mi), by road, north of Kampala, the capital of Uganda, and the largest city in that country.

Agago District is one of the newest districts in Uganda. It was established by an Act of Parliament and began functioning on 1 July 2010.

Prior to that date, it was part of Pader District. The district is part of the Acholi sub-region, together with: 1. Amuru District 2. Gulu District 3. Kitgum District 4. Lamwo District 5. Nwoya District and 6. Pader District.
