KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda’s business registry has deregistered 10,001 companies that failed to apply for reinstatement after being struck off the register.
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) took the action as part of its efforts to enforce compliance with the Companies Act, 2012.
The deregistered companies had been given an opportunity to reinstate their status but did not comply, leading to their permanent removal from the register.
According to URSB, a company that has been struck off the register ceases to exist legally, and operating such a company is a criminal offense.
The agency warned that stakeholders, including government ministries and financial institutions, should refrain from transacting with struck-off or deregistered companies.
URSB has intensified enforcement efforts in recent years, deregistering 875 companies in 2024 and 186,000 companies in 2023.
