
Kagezi was shot dead on March 30, 2015, in Kiwatule, a Kampala suburb on her way home. At the time of her death, she was the lead prosecutor in the case where 15 suspects were being tried for the 2010 bombing by al-Shabaab which claimed more than 70 people in Lugogo and Ethiopian Village in Kabalagala.
President Museveni has said the suspects behind the killing of former State prosecutor Joan Kigezi have been arrested.
He also said some of the suspected ADF rebels behind the attack on a secondary school in Kasese District and tourists in Queen Elizabeth National Park have been arrested or killed.
In a statement issued on Sunday, 05 November 2023, the President named the suspected killers of Kagezi as Kibuuka John, Masajjage John, Kissekka Dan and Nasur Abdalla.
“Further, good success. The suspects in the killing of Joan Kagezi have, finally, been arrested. They are: Kibuuka John, Masajjage John, Kissekka Dan and Nasur Abdalla. They were riding on two motor-cycles. I congratulate ISO and CID on the good work. They will soon be produced in Court,” he said in a statement that he also posted on his social media page X.
