Court issues warrant of arrest against Katanga widow, daughter committed to High Court

Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s court has issued a warrant of arrest against Molly Katanga (wife to murdered businessman Mathew Katanga) having failed to appear in court more than three consecutive times.

The warrant of arrest dated 22nd January 2023, signed by His Worship Elias Kakooza, Nakawa Court Chief Magistrate has been addressed to all Police officers in the country.

“You are hereby directed to arrest Katanga Molly and produce her before me as soon as possible.” Reads part of the warrant of arrest.

The court has also committed to High Court Molly’s co-accused who include her daughters: Martha Nkwanzi Katanga and Patricia Katanga as well as two house helpers George Amanyire and Charles Otai

Offenses

Molly Katanga (Widow) is charged with murder Contrary to sections 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act.

The prosecution contends that 2nd November 2023, Molly with malice aforesought caused the death of Henry Katanga.

Kakwanzi Patricia and Nkwanzi Martha ( daughters of the deceased) are charged with destroying evidence. Its alleged that on the 2nd November 2023, at Mbuya Chwa 2 Nakawa Division, Kampala District, the two had Molly Katanga, Kakwanzi Patricia and Nkwanzi Martha who to their knowledge liable to an offence to enable them to escape punishment.

Otai James and Amanyire George (house helpers) are charged with being Accessories after the fact contrary to section 393(1) of the Penal Code Act.

It is alleged that on the 2nd November 2023, at Mbuya Chwa 2 Nakawa Division, Kampala Capital City Authority, the two had Molly Katanga, Kakwanzi Patricia, and Nkwanzi Martha who to their knowledge liable to an offence in order to enable them to escape punishment.

Evidence

The Prosecution contends that it will rely on evidence like;

Postmortem report of the deceased, Sketch plan of the scene of crime, Forensic reports, Telephone printouts.

Police Form 24 in respect of the accused persons, Police Form 19 (Exhibit slips), items on Exhibit slips, sketch plan of the scene of crime, SOCO report and photographs, Police Form 17 A’s Police Form 3 among others.

“Whereupon prosecution shall contend that the accused persons have no valid defense for their actions and shall pray that they are convicted as indicted.” Reads part of the committal documents.

The accused persons who have been appearing before court, have been remanded to Luzira Prison pending the arrest of Molly.
