Diana Museveni Kyaremera, a daughter of President Museveni, has confirmed that she has divorced with businessman Geoffrey Kamuntu after nearly 18 years together.

In a short statement released on Saturday evening, Diana revealed that the divorce took place in 2022 but has been kept out of the public sphere for the sake of their children.

“I have tried to keep my divorce private and out of public sphere for the sake of my children,” she wrote.

“However I feel the need to clarify now. It is with a heavy hearty that I follow you all about my divorce….. As you all know, divorce is a very difficult thing, especially when children are involved. I ask the public to pray for my family as we move forward from this difficult time and that you will respect my privacy,” she added.

As earlier reported by the UG Standard, Diana had applied to the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), seeking to drop the use of the name, “Kamuntu”, which belonged to her then-husband Geoffrey.

In a September 29 2023 notice, which is published in the Uganda Gazette, Diana, 42, said she wanted to be called Diana Museveni Kyaremera.

The revelation at the time went viral, leaving social media to create many theories as to what was behind the decision by Janet Museveni’s youngest daughter and last born.

But State House sources intimated to this website that the move was an indication that the couple were no longer living together and were divorcing.

According to the sources, Diana and Geoffrey Kamuntu had been separated for some time and each was living his or her own life. The two wed in 2004 and have three children.

The soft-spoken Diana, since her university days, has been the managing director of President Museveni’s family businesses.

Diana went to Kampala Parents School, Mount St. Mary’s College Namagunga in Mukono district and University of Minnesota in the United States for a degree in Archeology.

After completing her degree program in Minnesota, Diana returned home to rejoin the family and her dad deployed her to become manager and overseer of his Kisozi ranch. This was to be her job for the next two years until she got married to logistics management guru Geoffrey Kamuntu in the early 2000s. She subsequently opened her own tour & travel company or business called “Age Safaris.”

Diana Kamuntu has also been into some acting and indeed acted as First Lady in the Ugandan movie, titled 27 Guns, some years ago(directed by her elder sister Natasha Karugire.

On his part, Geoffrey Kamuntu owns a procurement firm that does consultancy work for the oil explorers in the Albertine region. He is alleged to have key interests in the Heritage Oil Company, one of the companies doing oil exploration in the region
