A 15—year old student has drowned in River Kirumira in Kabale District, the Police have said.
The police identified the victim as Merovin Ampumuza a student of St. Barnabas Karujanga in Kabale District.
According to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maata, the teen met with the accident while swimming in the river along with other friends who were grazing goats.
Ampumuza’s friends tried to rescue him but were reportedly overpowered by fast running water that eventually washed him away before police intervened.
The Police who retrieved the body for postmortem at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital have warned people living near the river banks to take maximum vigilance over swelling water levels.
