Speaking at the close of the training workshop which had over 100 persons working closely with compassion international in its over network of 400 churches were trained on how to handle disasters, Rose Nakabugo, the assistant commissioner in charge disaster management in the office of the prime Rose Nakabugo noted that conducting such a training that looks at prevention, preparedness was a very prudent decision which all organizations need to observe.

“Some time institutions wait for disasters to occur and we are in the middle of responding to emergencies, they organize trainings forgetting that , disasters don’t warn. This training has been so important because people have learnt a lot since Monday.”

She thereby called upon all Ugandans to conserve the environment as the first measure to prevent disasters.

The National Coordinator Compassion International Emmanuel Ahimbisibwe noted that his organization will provide funding and equipment that can be used to respond to the disaster situations depending on the mapping done for each region.

“We had our own internal strategies, guidelines and we were not intervening from nowhere or nothing, we are going to have cordinated efforts at the same time working alongside Prime Minister’s office to intervene in most organized way.”

“We have had a number of disasters taking place in this country commonly floods in Bududa , femine in Karamoja, floods in Kampala so that incase they happen again , they find us prepared. We are working with OPM so that we can mitigate any disaster.”

He further added the importance of this collaboration with Government is to put into account the already existing disaster threats.

Compassion International Uganda is a child advocacy ministry pairing compassionate people with children living in poverty.
