The Uganda Revenue Authority tax education team on Tuesday took to the streets of downtown Kampala (Kikuubo) to educate the masses about taxation, most notably, the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution (EFRIS) system that is aimed at solving business transaction challenges.
This came in the wake of a campaign dubbed Central Business District Tax Awareness Campaign (CBDTAC). Scores of people with the desire to learn filled the pitched camp and the URA team led by Hafsah Seguya Nabachwa took them through a thorough exposition answering all posed questions.

“EFRIS system is not a tax. It is just a system that makes your work very easy and almost seamless by sending transactions and receiving e-receipts and invoices,” said Seguya.
The tax expert also told the people that overseeing EFRIS transactions does not require any sophisticated technology saying that even with phones, they can send their transactions and even receive electronic receipts and invoices.
“EFRIS is a must-have for Value Added Tax (VAT) registered taxpayers and other taxpayers have the option of either adopting the platform or not, but we strongly encourage them to do so given its outstanding benefits,” she explained.
The URA tax education officer requested traders to get their Tax Identification Numbers (TIN) and formalize their businesses.
The EFRIS system, which has been adopted the world over, was institutionalized by the URA in 2021 and comes with a host of advantages including among others easier ways to fast-track refund claims and eliminate the loss of physical tax invoices and receipts.
