We are Embarrassed by Leaked Presidential Letters – Minister Mao

KAMPALA -Hon. Nobert Mao has expressed concern about the increasing cases of people leaking President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s letters on various social media platforms.

On addressing the gathering at the 25th Annual Judges Conference, Mao revealed that these letters like the recent one which the President addressed to the Chief Justice on the issues of Muslim property are an embarrassment to the government.

“Such letters undermine the confidence people should have in the Judiciary thinking that we regularly give instructions to judges…. incase Politicians are persuaded to do that as Politicians, we do it publically in a public speech as am doing now.”

Mao also opposed the law which gives cabinet powers to hold disciplinary proceedings against a judicial officer saying that politicians are always driven by their own individual motives and intentions.

He added that such disciplinary proceedings can lead to removal of the judicial officer from office which will be so unfair.

For some years now, several confidential letters from various Government, Ministries and Agencies have been leaking in the media which has left many questions in people’s minds since in most cases these are between two big offices without middle persons involved.
