COVID-19 CRISIS: Makerere semester one likely to resume on May 9

KAMPALA – Makerere University Vice-Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has said that the university that was closed after the breakout of the coronavirus pandemic, is likely to open on May 9, 2020, once the outbreak is contained in Uganda.

He said that semester one will open for continuation on May 9, and that teaching will continue for four weeks while examinations will take three weeks.

Professor Nawangwe in a statement indicated that semester one will end on June 27, 2020, while recess term will begin on June 27, 2020.

This means the recess term will be shorted by four weeks but Prof Nawangwe indicated that incomplete activities may, continue during a holiday week and fresher’s orientation week.

He said if all goes well, Semester two will resume on August 15, 2020

President Museveni on March 20 closed all schools and educational institutions in a bid to avoid the possible rapid spread of new infections of COVID- 19 were schools to remain open.

More than 73,000 schools and institutions were closed affecting more than15, 000,000 learners and 548,000 teachers, according to education minister Janet Museveni.
