On Friday, a high-level delegation from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), led by Deputy DPP Mr. George William Byansi, undertook an official visit to Kyampisi Childcare Ministries (KCM).

The mission marked a renewed commitment by both institutions to deepen collaboration in the pursuit of justice, protection, and holistic support for child victims of crime.
The engagement centred on strengthening joint interventions in witness protection, witness management, case backlog reduction, trauma-informed care, and securing restitution and compensation for victims of child abuse, human trafficking, and child sacrifice. Both institutions reaffirmed their shared resolve to eliminate systemic barriers that impede justice for vulnerable children.
Mr. Byansi underscored the ODPP’s unwavering dedication to victim welfare, reflected in the establishment of the Department of Witness Protection and Victim Empowerment, mandated to champion the rights and safety of victims and witnesses. He expressed optimism regarding the realisation of the Witness Protection Bill, noting its transformative potential for Uganda’s justice system.
KCM Executive Director Mr. Peter Sewakiryanga applauded the enduring ODPP–KCM partnership. He highlighted key achievements including effective case management in human trafficking and child sacrifice matters, joint advocacy efforts through the Joan Kagezi Memorial Lecture, the Hope Event, and sustained community engagement aimed at preventing crimes against children.

The ODPP delegation included Mr. Richard Kaamuli, Assistant DPP and Head of the Witness Protection Department; Ms. Akello Florence Owinji, Assistant DPP/Regional Officer Mukono; Ms. Jacquelyn Okui, Public Relations Officer, Ms. Harriet Adong, Resident Senior State Attorney Nakifuma and Ms. Diana Asire, State Attorney. KCM was represented by Mr. Obed Byamugisha, Programs Director, among other senior officials.
The visit reaffirmed a shared vision: a justice system where every child victim is protected, heard, and empowered, and where perpetrators of crimes against children are held fully accountable.
